Lauki Ka Halwa

It seems this time Rain God is in no mood to appear. The clouds also as if have just seen 'Lagaan' and keep on playing hide and seek through out the day. So all they do is make the atmosphere sad & gloomy . So to Shoo away this dull feeling , i thought of making this Lauki Halwa which is very easy to make and also contains less calories as compared to the other halwas like Gajar ka Halwa ,Sooji ka Halwa and the likes.
This sumptuous dessert is quite nutritious and less 'sinful'  . Take a look at the recipe:

Ingredients:
  • 1 medium Lauki/ Doodhi
  • 1/2 litre Milk
  • 1/2 can Condensed Milk
  • 1 medium katori Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Cardamom Powder
  • 1 handful of chopped dryfruits (cashews, almonds, raisins)
  • A pinch of edible green color
Preparation Time: 10 mins.

Cooking Time: 25-30 mins

Serves: 4-5

Method:
  • Peel and Grate Lauki and keep it aside.
  • Heat a heavy bottom pan. Put grated lauki and milk and let it boil on medium flame.
  • Let it boil till the grated lauki becomes soft and transparent and the milk vaporizes.
  • Now add condensed milk , dryfruits and sugar. Mix well and fry it till the grated lauki absorbs the condensed milk.
  • At this stage , the halwa starts leaving the pan and gives a pleasant rich aroma.
  • Add cardamom powder and edible green color . Mix well.
  • It can be served hot or cold but tastes awesome when served hot.
A lot of people prefer to add ghee as well but if you have used full cream milk, there is absolutely no need to put ghee. This way the halwa is light on your stomach but there is absolutely no difference in the taste.
Try this quick dessert and give a treat to your sweet tooth. HAPPY COOKING !!
