Methi Gatte with Beans

A boring day at work , comes with a lot of hazards to your mental health .LOL..Perhaps there is nothing more appealing other than 'cooking away the blues'. I am sure , some of you must have experienced these sudden lethargy pangs.So a good news is that Cooking is a medium for people who like to use food as their bandages. All you have to do is consider your kitchen as a Place of Solace and the rest of the things(read veggies, spices, utensils etc.) as your best buddies. Such a drama queen I am. 
So ,to cheer myself up, i took refuge in my kitchen. Made this Methi Gatte with Beans by adding the zing of little innovation in the traditional recipe of Besan Gatta.Here comes the recipe:

Ingredients for Gatta:
  • 1 cup Gram Flour
  • 1 Katori chopped Fenugreek Leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 2 teaspoons Kanda Lasoon Masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Curds
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
Ingredients for Curry/ Masala:
  • 1 Katori Green Lima Beans (Hirva Pavta)
  • 1 Katori Black Beans (Boiled)
  • 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 cup Tomato-Ginger-Garlic Puree
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 2 teaspoons Mix Veg Masala
  • 2 teaspoons Chilly Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • Salt to taste
Cooking Time: 20 mins

Serves: 4

Method:
  • To make the gattas, combine all ingredients to make a stiff dough. Add little water if required.
  • Divide the dough in equal portions and make a cylindrical roll from each portion.
  • Boil water in a vessel and put the gatta strands in it.Cook for 10 mins.
  • Strain the water and let them cool for a while.Cut in small pieces and keep them aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds,chopped onions and tomato puree. Saute till the onions become brown and the raw smell of puree goes away.
  • Add turmeric powder,chilly powder ,coriander powder and mix well.
  • Now add the Green Lima Beans ,boiled Black Beans and 1 cup water. Bring to boil.
  • Add the gattas in the curry and mix well.Let it simmer for 5-10 mins on medium flame till the water evaporates .
  • Add mix veg. masala and salt .Mix well.
  • Garnish it with chopped coriander and serve hot with Garam Chapati .
